This column asked last time how many twists and turns the Hong Kong premiership race between jockeys Brett Prebble and Douglas Whyte could take?
Yesterday at it came up with what might be the definitive answer - one at every meeting - and the latest twist has set up South African Whyte for his 10th title on end, again relegating his Victorian challenger Prebble to the runner-up role.
Since Prebble's six pack on June 24 put him nine ahead and appeared to have given him the crown he covets, he has not ridden a winner - Whyte has gone five, three and, yesterday, four. He now leads 99-96.
With three meetings to go, there is room for more twists and turns. But if you're a betting man you'd say (and bookies agree) that Whyte is the man again.
A big part of Whyte's success has been Australian trainer John Size - together they are known as the Dream Team - and yesterday Size added to Prebble's nightmare by providing Whyte with three of his four winners.
Size has secured his own (sixth) premiership, leading last year's champion Caspar Fownes 72-62.
